A contribution to "Schau, wie der Gletscher schwindet"

"Traces of Disappearance" is an ode to the vanished glaciers. With the help of researcher Dr Andreas Bauder, artist Rahel Oberhummer crystallises the history and the exorbitant number of glaciers that have been lost forever. Countless small memorial steles made of pieces of marble in various shades of white are staged like sinking icefalls.

The glaciers are disappearing and with them the natural and cultural landscape of Switzerland. In summer 2024, the Swiss-wide exhibition "Schau, wie der Gletscher schwindet" addresses concerns about this change. It relies on the power of art to name and visualise change. Numerous museums and cultural institutions from Geneva to Graubünden and from Valais to Zurich are supporting the project.

The installation can be seen on the piazza of the Bern History Museum between the new and old buildings.
